Example Sentence Recording Criteria
- Read the example sentence normally, as you would reading a book to someone.
- Ensure that you read every word in the example sentence
- Do not add, remove, or change (i.e. change the intended pronunciation of) words present in the example sentences
- Please do not attempt to translate words from English to Igbo or vice versa. Read the word exactly how it is written
- Failure to follow these instructions will lead to audio being denied
- If you come across a word that has a typo, read the word as it is written. This means that your pronunciation will technically be incorrect due to pronouncing a word that has a typo
- We encourage this practice because we prioritize audio (even if incorrect) to match with its accompanied text
- Keep background noise to an absolute minimum. This includes avoid:
- Kids or family members noises down
- White noise like motors, generators, machines, etc. away
- Playback your recorded audio to ensure that the audio isn’t muffled or grainy
- Word and Example Sentence recorders should NOT be repeated multiple times — the word or sentence only needs to be said once in a recording
- Read every single word in the sentence, this include words within parentheses ( )
- If a number, either literal (2) or text (two), is present in the prompt, read the number in Igbo (2 - àbụọ̄)
- Acronyms should be pronounced as typically spoken
- i.e. INEC will be eye-neck, PVC will be pee-vee-cee
- When recording dates, please read them in Igbo with the following pattern:
- 4th day of the month of July in the year 2022
- I.e. if you see the text “July 4, 2022”, please read it as “the 4th date of the month of July in the year 2022” but in Igbo
- The year 2022 should also be spoken in Igbo
- I.e. “puku abụọ na iri abụọ na abụọ”
Denied Audio
What does it take to deny an audio recording? If an audio checks either one of these boxes, please deny the audio:
- [ ] The audio is crackling and grainy - it’s difficult to hear the entire audio
- [ ] Parts of the sentence text is not recorded - all text must be read and recorded
- [ ] The prompt is repeated in the audio - the user repeated the prompt to say it twice
- [ ] If there is no audio to playback - the playback button is grayed
- [ ] The audio recorded doesn’t match the text prompt
- [ ] This means if a recorder adds, skips, or changes (i.e. changes the intended pronunciation of) words in their recording when compared to the text, deny the recording
First audio is denied because there’s no audio to playback.
